Hyperbounce is a passionate microscene that has been developing since around 2020, drawing on the wobbly, swaying bass music of past Soundcloud generations (sometimes known as “bounce”) but infusing the spectral tech of modern dubstep, the distorted fury of underground rap, and the maximalism of hyperpop. Dutch producer san was a pioneer of this sound before it even had a name, alongside carbine and scorpiioh, inspiring a new school of young producers. His 2025 debut album, “filename,” featuring kuru and gunk, marks a new chapter in san’s story: he shifts focus from technical skill to songwriting, with his vocals at the forefront. FL San’s past kits and presets have played a pivotal role in establishing the scene, but this is the first album he’s released to add “#HYPERBOUNCE” to Splice. The extensive bass catalog includes massive loops, growls, hits, and fills, brimming with tuned harmonics that blur the line between sound design and melody. Blown drums constantly shift with the beat, creating new combinations, while synths run the gamut from catchy melodies to serene ambiance. These sounds emanate from one specific scene, but are easily transportable anywhere. “I want to encourage people to try new things and not be afraid to use aggressive sounds in places they might not normally.”
